Our Mission

Reading opens doors to endless possibilities.

At KIDS BOOKS LEX, we believe that literacy is the foundation for lifelong learning and success. Our mission drives every program we develop and every book we distribute. We work tirelessly to ensure that every child in our community has access to quality books and engaging reading experiences that will inspire them for years to come.

What We Do

KIDS BOOKS LEX is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting reading and literacy among children by providing books, storytelling programs, and reading resources to foster a love for learning. We understand that early literacy experiences shape a child's educational journey and future opportunities.

We provide free books directly to children in need, ensuring every child has access to age-appropriate reading materials at home.

Storytelling Programs

Our engaging storytelling sessions bring books to life, capturing children's imagination and building their love for literature.

Book Mobile Initiative

Our mobile book distribution program reaches children in underserved areas of Lexington. We bring books directly to neighborhoods, apartment complexes, and community events, ensuring that geographic barriers don't prevent access to quality literature.

  • After-school program support

Why Literacy Matters

01

Early Brain Development

Reading to children from birth to age 5 helps build neural pathways crucial for language development and cognitive growth.

02

Academic Success

Children who read regularly perform better in all subjects, developing vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills.

03

Emotional Intelligence

Stories help children understand emotions, develop empathy, and learn about different perspectives and cultures.

04

Future Opportunities

Strong literacy skills open doors to higher education, better career prospects, and lifelong learning opportunities.

Success Stories

"My daughter received her first book from KIDS BOOKS LEX when she was just four years old. Now she's reading chapter books and dreams of becoming a writer. Thank you for sparking her love of reading!"

- Sarah M., Parent

The true measure of our success lies in the smiles of children who discover their new favorite book and the pride of parents who watch their children develop strong reading skills. Every week, we hear stories from families whose lives have been touched by our programs.

Teachers tell us about students who have improved their reading levels after participating in our programs. Parents share how bedtime reading has become a cherished family tradition thanks to books we've provided.
